Introduction of Institute of Fluid Physics
Institute of Fluid Physics (IFP), the No.1 Institute of China
Academy of Engineering Physics, is founded in Beijing in
1958. IFP moved from Haiyan, Qinghai to Jiange, Sichuan
in 1970, from Jiange to Science City of Mianyang,
Sichuan in 1990, and was formally denominated as
Institute of Fluid Physics, CAEP.
IFP is engaged primarily in nuclear weapon related
hydrodynamics experiments and relevant diagnostics
technology, R&D of high-tech weapon and warhead of
advanced conventional arms, dual-use technologies and
their commercialization. Fields of research of IFP range
over detonation and shock wave physics, pulsed power
technology, accelerator physics, optics and applied
electronics, high power laser and matter interactions,
computational physics and mechanics, et al. IFP
possesses of some large scientific research facilities,
such as several indoor and outdoor detonation test
sites, high speed and ultra-high speed series of
light-gas gun, Dragon series of linear induction
accelerators, Z-pinch facilities, and relevant
diagnostics technologies. In the past several decades,
IFP has made many prominent and profound contributions
to China¡¯s nuclear weapon, high-tech weapon¡¯s R&D, and
the developments of national defense technologies; IFP
was conferred with more than six hundreds of science and
technology achievement awards, published over twenty
science and technology books; IFP has fostered a large
group of eminent scientific researchers, including three
Academicians.
IFP has more than 750 staffs, of which over 160 researchers have
senior professional titles, over 280 researchers have
Master or PhD degrees. At present, IFP holds privileges
to grant Master and PhD degree in six specialties,
engineering mechanics, fluid mechanics, condensed state
physics, nuclear technology and application, pulsed
power technology, and optics; IFP also holds three
post-doctoral stations in three fields: nuclear science
and technology, physics, and mechanics. IFP has several
affiliates, including ¡°Laboratory for Shock Wave and
Detonation Physics Research¡±, which is the first Key
Laboratory for National Defense Science and Technology,
and ¡°Test and Evaluation Center of Detonation and Shock
Parameters¡±, and ¡°Chinese Pulsed Power Society¡±; IFP
also publishes two Chinese nucleus journals: Explosion
and Shock Waves and Chinese Journal of High Pressure
Physics.
To further expand our cause, IFP is actively pursuing the
development of dual-use technologies and their
commercialization to serve the nation¡¯s economy while
securely accomplishing the research and production tasks
demanded from the state. IFP has earned its own
characteristics and preponderance in the R&D of special
power supply, pulsed X-ray source, detonation container
and laser interference speedometer, and their
commercialization has shown earlier outcomes.
Brilliant achievements, done yesterday; splendid future, forging
today! In the journey to our future, the staffs of IFP
will progressively strive for the aim of building a
first-class institute in the world with fresh new
attitude, solidarity, high-spirited vigor and adherence
to the value of ¡°Preciseness and Faith of Truth,
Innovation and Transcendence¡±.
